The permanent magnet unit has a cylindrical permanent magnet (100) formed from a number of coaxial annular permanent magnet elements (100A-100D), each magnetised in the radial direction from the inside to the outside and a second cylindrical permanent magnet (200) with a number of coaxial annular permanent magnet elements (200A-200D), each magnetised in the radial direction from the outside to the inside. The cylindrical permanent magnets are aligned in the longitudinal direction along a common central axis, with an intermediate space between them, each permanent magnet element of each permanent magnet provided as peripherally spaced segments, acting as individual radially magnetised magnets.
