The film or paper is transported by a pair of guides (11) in each frame unit (10) installed in the tank. The spacing of the guides is variable by means of two drives. One comprises a setting transfer plate (31) movable along the outer walls of the tank. The other has a rotary shaft (41) carrying a pinion (42) in mesh with a horizontal rack (82). The drives are coupled or sepd. by means of elements (81,85) whose relative position is predetermined and adjusted by a mechanism (60) with leaf springs at the ends of a cutout (85a) operating limit-of-travel switches.
