The ring 1 has integrally formed spring latches 4 which project into the bore of the ring when it is closely fitted into the brush holder of the motor. The latches thus provide an abutment for the commutator 8 when it is inserted into the bore of the ring during assembly of the motor, and this drives the ring ahead of the commutator during its insertion until a point is reached where the ring clears the brushes 6 which move into operative position. The latches on the ring then spring out to engage recesses formed within the motor when the commutator is fully inserted and, in this position, the ring makes no contact whatsoever with the commutator.
