The safety key holder (21) has a lock which can be set in a secure position. The lock is a barrel lock, and the holder is a rigid curved key holder having a sufficiently thin cross-section so that keys of standard format with a mounting hole can be placed on the holder. The holder can also have a flexible curved design, which is held rigidly in the lock. The holder has an inserted end which is inserted into a mounting point in the lock, the mounting point extending parallel to the key insertion direction.
