Bobbins (6) are retained on, esp. high speed, spindles (1) on a textile machine by sliding on a coaxial adaptor (2) with one or more catches (8) which register with a recess (13) on the spindle. The catch or catches (8) move radially across and/or at an angle to the spindle axis (10). The catch(es) engage as the adaptor (2) is placed into position axially along the spindle.
