Vapours are extracted from the lavatory bowl (2) by generating an underpressure, using a built-in ventilator (7). The vapours are removed via the water distribution edge of the bowl. The flushing water outlet (5,6), and the connection pipe (9), and are fed into the waste pipe (4) respectively the vapour extractor, via a gas-proof flap trap and a pipe (8). The device is modified for fitting into existing lavatory cisterns. The ventilator is operated at low voltage, and is supplied via accumulators or batteries. These are installed in the cistern and are easy to replace.
