A 2-oxa-isocephem compound of the formula (1): CHEM wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are various substituents, pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, composition containing the same and processes for preparing the same are disclosed. The compound is useful as an antimicrobial agent.
