The proposal is for a process for the transmission of audio signals. Two combined signals are formed from the right and left-hand stereo signals of an audio stereo signal. The combined signal is provided with error protection in varying degrees during its transmission. In the receiver, either the right and left-hand stereo channels are found from the combined signal and reproduced or, if a combined signal is too distorted, the other combined signal is reproduced. The varying error protection makes it possible to increase the range of a combined signal as against prior art proceses.
