Method of making marks on concrete castings esp. mass produced parts such as paving stones

The side wall (1) of the mould for the casting incorporates a recess into which a die (2) is placed. The die has a shallow depression of approximately 1.5 mm deep in the form of the mask such as a letter which is to be cast on the mould.The depression has edges of shallow S-shaped cross-section so that the mask will not be sheared off when the part is removed from the mould. To further facilitate removal from the moulds, sections of the mask are tapered.
