Liquid crystalline organo-polysiloxane and liquid crystal compositions

Liquid crystalline organopolysiloxane is provided having the general formula: Ra(A)b(B)cSiO(4-a-b-c)/2 wherein R is independently selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom, hydrocarbon group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and phenyl group, A is a group of the formula: CHEM wherein m, n, and x are integers in the range: m /= 3, n /= 2, 5 /= m + nx /= 15, x = 1 or 2, B is an organic chromophore group having an absorption peak in the visible spectrum, a, b, and c are numbers in the range: 1 /= a 2, 0 b + c /= 1, 0.45 /= b(b + c) /= 0.95, and 1 a + b + c /= 3. This organopolysiloxane as a high molecular weight liquid crystal is combined with a low molecular weight liquid crystal to form a liquid crystal composition.
