The sub-station, designed to provide both heating and hot water for a premises, consists of a tank (8) with an assembly (E) beneath it comprising couplings (38,46) for hot water feed and return (3,4), couplings (45,46) for heating water, a tank (8) with a heat exchanger (9) and circulating pumps (15,16). The assembly (E) beneath the tank has the two pumps (15,16) situated one above the other and the couplings for the heating and hot water feed and return pipes situated in two horizontal planes in line with the pumps to keep them all within a limited area. The second pump (16) is connected to a three-way switch (26) which controls the circulated water for summer and winter use and for switching off the circulating system altogether.
