Treatment and purification of liq. media heavily contaminated with suspended and dissolved pollutants involves a succession of gravimetric sepn. phases for removal of solid particles of decreasing grain size and recovery of clarified water. The novelty is that the process includes injecting a precipitant reactant (I) for dissolved components (e.. phosphorus or nitrogen cpds.) leached from cultivated soil by irrigation water. (I) is injected during or after the particle sepn. stages. The obtd. ppte. is then removed, giving a product (specifically water free of phycogenic components) which can be released into natural water-courses.
