The guard is made from a layer (2) of synthetic foam material with closed cells and outer skins, made in the shape of the spiked shoe sole and fastened to it by a strap (3) which can be elasticated or not. The thickness of the foam sole is at least as great as the length of the shoe's spikes, and its density and hardness are such that the spikes can penetrate into the sole up to a third of the length, with the sole returning to its original shape afterwards. The guard sole is made e.g. from polyurethane foam with closed cells, having a density of 0.07-0.25 g/cm3 and a hardness of 18-25 Shore A. Its underside can be covered with a layer of non-slip material or have transverse anti-slip grooves.
