The trousers, e.g. for protecting against chain-saw cuts, have a lining (1) of a cut-resistant material (11) which covers at least the front half of one leg. The trouser leg is made from front and rear halves (2a, 2b) joined by side seams (10) and the safety lining covers the whole of the front half, with its edges (6) extending beyond the side seams. The lining is fitted in place before the two halves are stitched together, attaching it to the front half-leg (2a) and leaving its edges free until the two halves have been joined. The edges of the lining are then attached to the rear half-leg (2b) at a series of separate points (12), using a stitching gun. The lining is made from several layers of material which is designed and fitted so that its fibres are released quickly when it is cut, having a blocking action on a saw chain.
