A hemispherical metal cup, implantable by impact into the patient's acetabulum, includes a projecting rim (20) at its apex. The rim is formed by an insert attached to the cup, e.g. by engagement into a hole at the apex of the cup, which includes a cutting edge (21) which penetrates into the bone tissue of the acetabulum. The insert has a projection at its inner end with an external thread (22) which cooperates with a thread on the inner surface of the hole in the apex of the cup. An internal thread (23) is formed on an axial opening of the insert for engagement by the threaded end of the shaft of an impacting instrument. Lateral holes (24) are formed at intervals around the wall of the insert.
