Unit for detection of gas is novel in that it comprises: (a) a light source emitting a wide-band spectrum; (b) a beam selector allowing selection of this spectrum, a passing band and the changing of this spectral selection; and (c) a device for detecting the absorption spectrum given off by the gas.
