Novel calixarenes of formula (I), wherein m is 0 or 1, n is an integer from 2 to 8, with 4/= (m + 1) x n/= 8, R1 and R2, which are the same or different, are alkyl or o-nitrophenoxyalkyl groups, and R3 and R4, which are the same or different, are alkyl or aryl groups. Said calixarenes are useful for removing actinides and lanthanides from aqueous solutions produced by the reprocessing of spent fuels.
