A vehicular automatic transmission and control system therefor includes an automatic transmission including a planetary gear unit and a plurality of friction elements for connecting the components of the planetary gear unit selectively to rotary members or stationary members; a hydraulic control unit for selectively switching and controlling oil pressures to be fed to the friction elements; and an electronic control unit for outputting a signal indicating the running state of a vehicle to control the feed of the oil pressures to the friction elements.
