PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high supporting stiffness of a balancer shaft for an in-line 4 cylinder engine disposed in parallel to the crank shaft, by using end walls and partition walls of the cylinder block while suppressing any produced bending moment to reduce driving loss of and facilitate assembly of a balancer shaft. ;SOLUTION: The unbalanced part 31 of a balancer shaft 30 is disposed at the side of the second and third cylinders 10-2, 10-3 in middle of an engine. A first bearing A is provided at the extension shaft 32 connected to the unbalanced part 31, a second bearing B at the end of opposite end of the extension shaft 32, and a third bearing C at the center of the unbalanced part 31 such that the first bearing A is supported by the cylinder block end wall 16 at the side of the fourth cylinder 10-4, the second bearing B by the partitioner 12-1 between the first and second cylinder 10-1, 10-2, and the third bearing C by the partitioner 12-2 between the second and third cylinder 10-2, 10-3, and well as the diameter of the second bearing B is to be smaller than that of the third bearing C.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
