PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time required for calculation by calculating the rut digging amount based on an inter-pavement distance data detected through a rut digging laser sensor, and left and right white line position data picked up through left and right white line cameras. ;SOLUTION: A traveling distance meter 4, an image processor 5, an ROM 6, a CPU 7 and an RAM 8 are mounted on a vehicle 1. The distance between a pavement and a rut digging laser sensor 2 comprising a plurality of sensors fixed to the vicinity of vehicle 1 is detected through the sensor 2 and delivered through the image processor 5 to the CPU 7 along with the left and right white line position data acquired through left and right white line cameras fixed to the opposite ends of the sensor 2. The CPU 7 combines the irregularity data of the cross-section of pavement calculated using the distance between the sensor 2 and pavement with the left and right white line position data acquired through the cameras on the RAM 8 thus specifying the position of white line and calculating the rut digging amount of pavement.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
