PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the unequal stretching of a liquid crystal display element by the nonuniformity of the intensity of contact of piles with an oriented film resulted from the implanting position of the piles of rubbing cloth wound around a rubbing roller. ;SOLUTION: This rubbing device is constituted to execute an orientation treatment by rotating the rubbing roller 1 formed by winding the rubbing cloth 2 on the outer peripheral surface of a revolving roller 1a and rubbing the oriented film 7 formed on the surface of a substrate 4 for the liquid crystal display element with the piles P implanted on the rubbing cloth 2. The one juxtaposition direction of the piles P of the rubbing cloth 2 wound around the revolving roller 1a is inclined with the revolving direction of the revolving roller 1a.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
