METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR DATA BASE RETRIEVAL USING RETRIEVAL SET DISPLAY PICTURE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the data base retrieval method which easily narrows down the range of records in a short time by digitizing the difference between specified record elements of two arbitrary records out of plural records and calculating and using it as the degree of difference. SOLUTION: A data base 1 where plural records are stored, a processor 2 which retrieves records, and a terminal 3 provided with a display device 4 on which the retrieval condition and the retrieval result are displayed are provided. By this constitution, the degree of difference between two arbitrary records in each item is obtained, and average and variance in each item of degrees of difference are obtained. They are used to normalize the degrees of difference, and they are summed up. All records are so plotted that the synthetic degree of difference corresponds to the distance between two records. A record group is selected based on a specified noticed record out of plural plotted records to generate a new retrieval set. This retrieval object is used to continue the record retrieval.
