PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a modified ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer which dissolves quickly even in cold water, is thermoplastic; and is suitable for a water-sol. film or an adhesive by reacting an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer with a (meth)acrylic compd. by a specific way. ;SOLUTION: This modified copolymer comprises 20-55mol% structural units represented by formula I, 40-77mol% structural units represented by formula II, and 3-40mol% structural units represented by formula III, has a melt viscosity of 1,000-30,000P at 23C, and is obtd. by subjecting a solid ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer and a liq.
