PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject protein useful for the development of a prophylactic or a treating agent for prostatic carcinoma, uterine cancer, etc., a pregnancy-controlling agent, etc., by culturing a CHO cell having an expression vector containing a DNA coding for the protein of a human melatonin receptor under conditions in which the gene can be expressed. ;SOLUTION: A human genome DNA is amplified by a PCR method using a primer prepared by the synthesis based on the base sequence of the cDNA of a known human melatonin receptor and cloned. An expression vector pAKK0- hMe1R7 having a DNA coding for a human melatonin receptor protein is obtained by integrating the DNA coding for a human melatonin receptor protein having the base sequence expressed by the formula into a vector. Subsequently, the expression vector is introduced into a CHO cell deficient in a DHFR gene to transform the cell.
