PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an aluminum alloy excellent in cold forgeability, discharge characteristic of machining chips, and smoothness of machined surface and having excellent strength even if a casting material is directly cold-forged. ;SOLUTION: This aluminum alloy has a composition consisting of, by weight, 0.05-0.2% Si, 0.2-1.0% Cu, 0.9-1.3% Mg, 0.3-1.5% Mn, 0.05-0.7% Fe, further 0.5-2.5%, in total, of one or more elements among Pb, Bi, and Sn, and the balance Al with inevitable impurities. If necessary, Cr, Zr, V, Ti, and B can be added selectively. A casting is subjected to homogenizing treatment, cold-forged, and then subjected, if necessary, to artificial aging treatment.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
