CODING METHOD, CODER, WAVELET CONVERTER AND WAVELET INVERSE CONVERTER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an efficient coding method with a few memory capacity by storing 1st and 2nd code strings with hierarchy, based on priority given to the hierarchy. SOLUTION: RGB signals of an original image are given to a sampling means 400, in which the signals are sampled and stored in a field storage means 401. Then a color separate means 412 converts th stored signal into a YUV color signal and a coding section 413 applies wavelet conversion, quantization and variable length coding to the signals for each color component so as to generate 1st and 2nd code strings with hierarchy. Then the 1st and 2nd code strings are stored respectively to one and other sides of a memory area of a coding storage means 418 according to priority discriminated by a priority discrimination means 417. Thus, up to codes with lower priority are effectively packed in the code storage means 418 whose capacity is limited, the memory utilizing efficiency is improved in this coding method.
