PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to prevent the formation of bubbles when a temp. is lowered even in the case of thin cells formed by adhering AB substrates within the plane. ;SOLUTION: Smectic liquid crystals are put into a cholesteric liquid crystal state or isotropic state having a flow property and are vacuum injected into the liquid crystal cells. The cells are rested for a long period of time until an equil. state is attained. The liquid crystal cells are thereafter cooled and held to and at the smectic state on the deeper side first while the parts near the injection ports of the liquid crystal cells are held in the cholesteric liquid crystal state or isotropic state having the flow property. The liquid crystal cells are thereby provided with a temp. distribution in the cooling process. The liquid crystal cells are taken and arranged onto temp. controllers after the vacuum injection.
