PURPOSE: To grasp the discharge resistance of a zinc oxide element as a numerical value. ;CONSTITUTION: The current of a specified energy is fed to a ZnO element 1 enough to heat it, the heated element 1 is imaged by a camera 41 to obtain a temp. distribution of the element 1 from its image (44b). A max. and min. temps. are obtained (44c) as well as the distance 1 between the points at which both temps. are indicated (44d). The distance 1 is divided by the difference delta T between the max. and min. temps. to obtain an index delta T/l (44e). The correlation between the index and resistance is previously investigated and stored in a memory 44f.
