PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the transmission efficiency by adopting a sophisticated assignment circuit for the multiplexer controlling the channel network. ;SOLUTION: This communication system consists of an ATM channel network, a service circuit provided with an access terminal for a cell to be sent via a connection terminal and stipulated by a connection identifier and a cell buffer element having a transmission controller for the cell with the same identifier, and a multiplier provided with an assignment circuit 300 to give effect onto the controller. The assignment circuit 300 is provided with a means setting a stop date with respect to each cell to be sent according to the identifier, a table 392 storing identifiers in response to address interval as a function of a stop date, a tree device 394 in which the number of leaves corresponds to the address interval to store active elements deciding the identifier in the intervals and an insert/retrieval circuit to insert and produce the identifier by operating the tree device.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
