PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide activated carbon efficiently adsorbing low b.p. org. chlorine compds. in an aq. son. in which various components coexist, ensuring high packing density when a water purifier is packed with the activated carbon and having high mechanical strength. ;SOLUTION: This activated carbon is a formed granular carbon obtd. by bonding carbonized and activated particles of phenolic resin powder, has 600-1,250m²/g specific surface area 0.1-1.0cc/g pore volume of pores each having 0.01-10μm pore diameter, 0.20-0.80cc/g pore volume of pores each having ≤100Å pore diameter and 0.1-1.1g/cc bulk density of the granules and ensures 0.30-0.70g/cc packing density. The pore volume of pores each having 6-8Å pore diameter accounts for ≥65vol.% of the pore volume of pores each having ≤100Å pre diameter.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
