PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the wear resistance and toughness of a steel material by means of a heat treatment system using the steel material as electrode under electrostatic voltage and its method. ;SOLUTION: In this electrostatic voltage electrode heat treatment system and its method, a steel material disposed in the space in a heated heating furnace 2 having a housing with a good conductor outside, being insulated from the heating furnace, on a high-degree insulation insulator 1 is used as cathode, and this electrode steel material is heat-treated under the action of DC electrostatic voltage. As the result, thermal elements, electrons, etc., are emitted from the surface of the electrode steel material, and these emitted thermal elements, electrons, etc., are absorbed by the outside of the housing and are further absorbed via a ground 1 by an activated carbon packed bed 6 disposed in the vicinity, and absorption is accelerated. Further, in this method, a process consisting of temp. raise up to a specified temp. of the electrode steel material, aging at the specified temp. for a fixed time, and cooling down to room temp. within a fixed time, partially or over the whole region, at a cooling rate represented by a gentle straight line and/or a gentle curve is included.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
