PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to reduce production cost and decrease the leakage of electric flux by alternately superimposing and joining PLZT thin plates and metal electrode plates, applying a voltage between an odd-number-th metal electrode plate and an even-number-th metal electrode plate, and performing polarization treatment for PLZT thin plates. ;SOLUTION: An odd-number-th metal electrode plate is connected to a plus pole of an electrode device, and an even-number-th metal electrode plate is connected to a minus pole of the electrode device. Thus, each PLZT thin plate is connected in parallel electrically. Under this state, if a voltage is applied to each of metal electrode plates 2-1 to 2-n+1, a potential difference is created between metal electrode plates 2-1 and 2-n+1 respectively, and polarization treatment is performed for each of PLZT thin plates 1-1 to 1-n. By doing this, the polarization treatment can be performed even at a low voltage, so that the production cost can be reduced, leakage of electric flux during light radiation can be reduced, and loss in elongation amount of the optical strain element can be decreased and therefore the optical strain effect can be created with a high efficiency.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
