PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately and rapidly inspect the sedative or analgestic action of a test substance and to more accurately, rapidly and simply measure the change of the body motion quantity of a newborn animal by using a small quantity of a specimen. ;SOLUTION: Stimulation is applied to a newborn animal of an experimental small animal to measure the body motion quantity generated as a result thereof and the measured data is compared between a test substance administered group and an unadministered group to inspect the sedative or analgestic action of the test substance concerned. In the measurement of the change of the body motion quantity, stimulation is applied to the newborn animal 12 and the body motion generated as a result thereof is transduced into an electric signal by an electromechanical transducer 1A and the outlet signal of the electromechanical transducer 1A is processed by a signal processing means consisting of an amplifier 4, a rectifier 5, an integrator 6 and a waveform shaping circuit 8 to be measured.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
