PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for determining pharmacodynamic parameters without excessively relying on a complicated method and designing a method for administering a drug. ;SOLUTION: This method for determining pharmacodynamic parameters and designing the dosing regimen for a drug comprises confirming the drug concentration in an effect compartment as a function of the exit rate constant, providing a measured effect of the drug, graphically forming a hysteresis loop between the drug concentration in the effect compartment and the measured effect, varying the exit rate constant of the effect compartment, collapsing the hysteresis loop, selecting a pharmacodynamic model fitting the curve of the collapsed hysteresis loop, affording a predicted effect in accordance with the selected pharmacodynamic model and drug concentration in the effect compartment, then adjusting the exit rate constant until a calculated error between the predicted effect and the measured effect compartment, then adjusting the exit rate constant of the effect compartment in the method for determining the characteristic value of the effect compartment, e.g. the exit rate constant after administration of the drug to a central compartment coupled to the effect compartment. Thereby, a dosing regimen for the drug is designed in accordance with the exit rate constant at which the calculated error is minimized.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
