PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable light constant in polarization direction to be easily generated by a method wherein a core region partitioned with a light emission port inside an electrode and a region of low conductivity in an upper conductive mirror region is set asymmetrical in cross section. ;SOLUTION: An electrode 119 which includes a light emission port 121 is formed on the upside 123 of an upper conductive mirror region 110, and a low- conductivity region 115 is formed in an upper conductive mirror region 110 of the formation of a core region 117. The core region 117 is extended from under the electrode 119 toward a light generating region 109, and the low- conductivity region 115 limits a current flow which flows toward the light generating region 109 to the electrode 119 to the core region 117. A vertical resonant-type planar emission laser 101 makes the light emission port 121 emit light corresponding to a current which flows through the electrode 119, and the core region 117 demarcated with the light emission port 121 and the low- conductivity region 115 is set asymmetrical in cross section, whereby a vertical resonant-type planar emission laser 101 is capable of emitting laser rays prescribed in polarization direction.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
