PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record an image for a high-speed search in a cassette memory part by reducing a data quantity. ;SOLUTION: A scene picked up in a photo mode is compressed and stored in a memory added to a tape at the time of picture recording. An input from an external system is reduced by a second data compression processing part 50 into the predetermined quantity of a bit unit and compressed and stored into in a first cassette memory part 60. Previous data is stored into a second cassette memory part 110. The data already stored is expanded by a second data expanding part 120. The data recorded in the cassette memory part 60, 110 need not pass an error correction code part 20. Since data is not added thereto, a large cassette memory is not needed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
