PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for mass propagation of Calanthe discolor Lindl. which has hitherto been considered as difficult to propagate by the tissue culture. ;SOLUTION: This method for mass propagation of Calanthe discolor Lindl. can be carried out by a method comprising the first step for taking out a meristematic tissue of a growth point in the Calanthe discolor Lindl. in an aseptic and virus-free manner, the second step for culturing the taken out meristematic tissue of the growth point in a culture medium containing a phytohormone and a blood serum, inducing the propagating a protocorm-like spherical body and the third step for culturing the resultant protocorm-like spherical body in a culture medium containing the phytohormone at a lower concentration than that in the second step and redifferentiating the protocorm-like spherical body.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
