PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a mechanical pulp providing paper excellent in characteristics of quality of paper such as paper strength, by treating a papermaking raw material and/or white paper with a specific bacterium belonging to the genus Pseudomonas to prevent a pitch trouble. ;SOLUTION: A papermaking raw material and/or white paper is treated with a bacterium belonging to the genus Pseudomonas capable of decomposing resin acids, fatty acid glycerides and fatty acids [especially preferably Pseudomonas resinovorans ATCC-14,235]. The resin acids, the fatty acid glycerides and the fatty acids among hydrophobic components of wood can be decomposed and removed by the mild treatment.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
