PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To greatly increase the degree of freedom of design of the optical scanning device by making it possible to use a completely new layout for a synchronous optical detecting element of the optical scanning device. ;SOLUTION: This device deflects luminous flux by an optical deflector 5 and converges the deflected luminous flux as a light spot on a scanned surface 9 by a scanning image forming lens to optically scan the scanned surface 9. At this time, this device has an optical path bending part 6 which is a lens 8 for optical scanning that constitutes at least part of the scanning image forming lens and reflects synchronizing signal on the end part of the scanning start side of the deflected luminous flux in a horizontal scanning corresponding direction to bend the optical axis, and the optical path bending part 6 is constituted so as to bend the optical path so that the reflected synchronizing light passes through the lens in the main scanning corresponding direction.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
