PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a coal-water slurry which has high concn. and low viscosity, is easy to transport, store and handle, permits coal particles to be very slowly settled, does not cause compaction, and possesses excellent stability by adding a particular stabilizer to a coal-water slurry. ;SOLUTION: This highly cone. coal-water slurry has a coal concn. of 65 to 80wt.%, an A value 20 days after the preparation (as evaluated with a rheometer RV20/CV20N manufactured by HAAKE; A=τ2/τ1 (wherein τ1 represents the shear stress immediately after the initiation of stirring and τ2 represents the shear stress one day after the initiation of standing) of 2 to 5, and a τ2 value of 2 (PA) or more. The stabilizer for this highly conc. coal-water slurry comprises a carboxymethyl cellulose having a viscosity of 200 to 2000cP as 1wt.% aq. soln. at 25°C and an average degree of etherification of 1.5 to 2.5 or a salt thereof and an alkali as indispensable components.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
