PURPOSE:To judge eye irritability, by coating the surface of a quartz vibrator with a lipid bimolecular film. CONSTITUTION:A sensor is constituted by coating the surface of a quartz vibrator of AT cut and 6MHz or more with a lipid bimolecular film. That is, the quartz surfaces 2, 2' of the quartz vibrator 1 of about 0.64cm are grasped by silver or gold electrodes 3, 3' and the lead wires 4, 4' connected to an oscillation circuit are respectively drawn out from said electrodes. The lipid bimolecular film coats the quartz surfaces 2, 2' of the quartz vibrator 1 and the electrodes 3, 3'. By this method, a lipid bimolecular film coated quartz vibrator is obtained. Even when the sensor thus obtained is immersed not only in water but also in a solvent such as ethanol or methanol, the coated lipid bimolecular film is not dissolved or released. Therefore, eye irritability can be judged even with respect to a certain kind of an oil-soluble substance to be examined dissolved in water or a solvent from the adsorption or coupling degree to the surface of the sensor.
