PURPOSE: To provide the subject roll capable of giving the edges of patterns or letters a clear black openwork by abrading a recess for black openwork formation and the outer face of the recess at specified levels relatively to the diameter of the filaments of a recess-shaped net roll to improve the smoothness of the recess face. ;CONSTITUTION: A flat net 18 is press-molded using a mold 13 to make a recess- shaped flat net 19 formed with a recess 8 for black openwork formation, and this net 19 is wrapped on a lower net roll 5 to make a dandy roll. In this case, prior to the press molding, the recess forming site on the net 18 is abraded using, e.g. sand paper P to such an extent as to be 15-30% of the diameter of the filaments 11 making up the net 18 to improve the smoothness of the respective faces of the recess and give paper a clearness in the edge parts of black openwork pattern or letters because the filaments 11 get thin, thus obtaining the objective dandy roll having such advantages.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
