PURPOSE:To prepare a polyvinyl ester polymer of a high degree of polymn. easily in an industrial scale, by the emulsion photopolymn. of a vinyl ester monomer in a specified low-temp. zone. CONSTITUTION:A polyvinyl ester polymer of a high degree of polymn. having an intrinsic viscosity of at least 1.5dl/g is prepared by the emulsion photopolymn. of a vinyl ester monomer at a low temp. of -60-10 deg.C. The above-mentioned intrinsic viscosity is a value determined in acetone at 30 deg.C with a PVAc obtained by saponifying this polyvinyl ester polymer and then converting the saponified product to an acetate. A PVA polymer of a high degree of polymn having an intrinsic viscosity of at least 1.5dl/g can be obtained by saponifying the polyvinyl ester polymer obtained above.
