PURPOSE:To provide the subject method capable of uniformly and smoothly raising high-quality vegetables by merely replenishing water thereon even if furnishing the medium with no additional fertilizer. CONSTITUTION:In a medium 40 for raising vegetables made up of (A) upper layer, an organic medium 20 prepared by converting a medium used for mushroom culture into a virtually 100% organic fertilizer and (B) lower layer, a fertilizer layer or soil 30 incorporated with a fertilizer, the organic medium 20 as the upper layer is sown with vegetable seeds 52. The seeds 52 are then allowed to germinate into a vegetable 50 and the roots 56 of the vegetable are allowed to extend, through the upper layer 20, into the lower layer, the fertilizer layer or soil 30; and the vegetable 50 is continued to raise while an additional fertilizer contained in said fertilizer layer or soil 30 is allowed to absorb into the roots 56 of said vegetable.
