PURPOSE: To obtain the subject composition useful for a disposable biomedical electrode, excellent in electric conductivity and shelf life by polymerizing a polymerizable monomer comprising at least one kind of N-vinyllactam, a specific crosslinking agent and a plasticizer in the presence of a free radical initiator. ;CONSTITUTION: The subject composition comprising a crosslinking agent and swellable polymer matrix of components A and B and a component (C) is obtained by polymerizing (A) 5-50 wt.% of at least one kind of polymerizable monomer comprising an N-vinyllactam such as N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone and (B) 0.02-5.0 wt.% of a crosslinking agent (e.g. diethylene glycol divinyl ether) on the basis of the component A, a compound having a plurality of ethylenically unsaturated bonds of which the ethylenic groups are vinyl, allyl or methallyl groups bonded to N or O atoms and (C) 35-95 wt.% of a plasticizer which is glycerol or a mixture of glycerol and water, (D) in the presence of 0.1-5 wt.% of a free radical initiator (e.g. 2-hydroxy-2-methyl-1-phenyl-1-propanone on the basis of the polymerizable components.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO
