PURPOSE: To provide a power loss protection system used for a system having a spinning momentum wheel and connected to a power bus. CONSTITUTION: This system 10 insulates a protected circuit from a power bus 11 in the event of system power loss and converts and regulates power taken from kinetic energy stored in a spinning momentum wheel, to voltage sufficient to maintain operation of the protected circuit. This system 10 has a power loss detector 21 for detecting power loss in the system bus and sending a first signal in response to the power loss, and a regulator 26 for regulating the voltage derived from the momentum wheel energy to the protected circuit in response to the first signal.
