PURPOSE:To maintain stable sealing performance regardless of the operating condition of a nuclear reactor by working a V-shaped groove to the spacing between high-temp. plenum blocks, then combining and installing graphite sealing elements having a triangular section conforming with the angle of said groove. CONSTITUTION:The V-groove is worked to the spacing between the high-temp. plenum blocks in the hearth section of the high-temp. gas furnace and the graphite sealing elements having the triangular section conforming with the angle of the groove are combined and installed. The sealing elements change their positions while sliding by following up to the movement of the blocks even if a step is generated between the blocks. The sealing performance is thereby prevented from deteriorating and the leak flow of the coolant flowing except in ordinary flow passages is kept small even if the blocks move to any predicted relative positions within the reactor. The restriction in the heat flow design of the reactor core in the case of emitting a high outlet temp. is thus decreased.
