PURPOSE:To facilitate a work to stop a barge, by a method wherein, in a device which stops a barge by driving a stopper in a river bottom through a place on a ship hull, the stopper is vertically moved by means of an elevating means, and the stopper is supported on a pedestal traveled by a stopper drive means. CONSTITUTION:A stop device 1 loaded on a barge 8 having a ship hull approximately in a square used for a revetment work is provided with a pedestal 3 formed with a horizontal part 3a and a vertical part 3b, and a stopper 2 is elevatably engagedly inserted in a support member 4, being a hollow square cylinder body, mounted to the vertical part 3b of the pedestal 3. Guide rollers 16 and 16 on brackets 14 and 14 hung down from the horizontal part 3a are engaged with respective rails 9 and 9 on the barge 8, and the pedestal 3 is travailed through rotation of rolling rollers 7 by a drive means 6. In this case, a guide roller 25 mounted on the vertical part 3b side is touched on the side wall of the barge 8. Further, the stopper 2 is elevated through winding and unwinding of a wire rope 5a through the working of an elevating means 5.
