PURPOSE: To obtain the subject mixture compound effectively without a catalyst by feeding HF and 1,1,1-trichloroethane in a specific molar ratio into a reaction zone and continually withdrawing the vapor phase reaction mixture and refluxing HF continually back to the reaction zone. ;CONSTITUTION: HF and 1,1,1-trichloroethane in a specific molar ratio are fed to an reaction vessel 10 through lines 12 and 14, respectively and the vapor phase reaction products are continually withdrawn into a distillation column 16. HF is selectively condensed in a reflux condenser 18, liquid HF is refluxed back to the reactor 10 through the column 16 and vapor phase products are collected in line 20. The reflux conditions are adjusted so that one part by weight of gas is refluxed per one part by weight of gas obtained at the upper part. The molar feed ratio of HF/CH3CCl3 is 3.0-5.2 and greater than the value M (X is the partial molar fraction of CH3CClF2 in the subject mixture; and Y is the partial molar fraction of CH3CCl2F in the mixture).
