PURPOSE:To enhance the separation capacity of an optical isomer by using a surfactant containing optically active amino acid as an asymmetric source as a carrier. CONSTITUTION:A surfactant represented by either one of formulae I, II, III (wherein R is one org. group selected from an alkyl group, an aryl group and an aralkyl group, R1 is an alkyl group, Y1 is an amino acid side chain group, Y is one group selected from an amino acid side chain group, an alkyl group and a hydrogen atom and M+ is a metal ion or an ammonium ion) is used as a carrier. As the amino acid side chain group represented by Y1 and Y2 in the formulae, amino acid containing asymmetric carbon in its molecule such as aniline, valine or leucine is designated. By the use of this carrier, an optical isomer can be separated in a highly efficient manner.
